. . . and it feels just fine. And I feel quite normal too.
The sun shone; I spent the morning baking flapjacks and Dea's Auntie Joyce's Crunchies (little bit Jewish, little bit South African, little bit Devon) for tea; the Dear Daughter and her husband, who has joined us for the weekend, took the Edinburgh Boy for a day out at Dunster, walking on the beach and wandering through the castle grounds, and my philosophical window cleaner and his son split enough logs - from the trees felled last year - to fill an entire outhouse. No need to gather any winter fuel this year; the logs are now sitting in neat rows, ready for the woodburner.
Late afternoon found us watching the announcement of the new Labour leader and feeling distinctly underwhelmed and, in any event, I was still fuming that Oona King didn't get the Labour nomination for London's mayoral elections. (What were they thinking in London?) But we followed Paul Waugh's tweets (@paulwaugh) on the leadership results, which, as is often the way, were much more interesting than the thing itself. My son-in-law and I have our usual, none too serious, exchange of political views.
And now the sun has gone down behind the hill and the woodburner is blazing away. The Dear Daughter is having a long hot soak in the bath; the son-in-law is doing something or other on his iPad; the Edinburgh Boy is comatose and snoring, and I'm . . . well, I'm blogging. Obviously. And preparing supper for my family.
See, just another normal Saturday. An Edinburgh Boy sort of Saturday. And most definitely, my sort of Saturday - normal but very special.
I break my silence to say how happy this post made me. I wish you countless Saturdays of such small satisfactions and pleasures.

Normal sounds pretty idyllic to me and it seems you have savoured every moment. I listened to the leadership results while sitting in a car park in Sheerness of all places - excruciating. And like you disappointed that Oona did not do better.
Gorgeous pic of the EB.

That is a gorgeous, gorgeous photo! Normal is well worth appreciating, isn't it? Your blog has always shown that you know that and that you have long celebrated the simple pleasures of everyday life -- they must be that much sweeter now. Thanks for the reminder to take the time, breathe deeply, look around, be . . .

Sweet normality is very precious, isn't it. I'm so glad that it is re-emerging in your life.

This post was even relaxing to read. It sounds like you live in some lovely surroundings and more importantly you have lovely people to surround you as well. (and dogs - what kind? My family and I are kind of dog crazy).
